On the passing of Comrade Meenakshy
Maoist Communist Group (USA), May 1, 2021
On April 21, Com. Meenakshy, a great fighter and teacher of the proletariat, passed away following a week-long struggle with Covid-19.
Despite the fact that we are on the other side of the world, on another continent, we feel the loss as the loss of one of our own. Some among us had the opportunity to spend time with Com. Meenakshy in Lucknow. Despite the lack of a common language, we managed – with some help from bilingual comrades – to have nightly exchanges of ideas and experiences over dinner, on topics ranging from the class struggle in India and the US to revolutionary poetry, punctuated by bouts of unquenchable laughter, which echo even today.
To paraphrase Lenin’s words on the occasion of Babushkin’s death: we live in cursed conditions indeed, when it is possible for a major organizational worker, a senior Comrade, who has selflessly devoted her whole life to the workers’ cause, to pass on because the fascist bourgeoisie in power has disavowed all its responsibilities. Modi & Co. have sharpened the capitalist offensive against the most vital needs of the working class and masses. The fascists have placed the question of life and death in the hands of black-market profiteers who deal in oxygen and drugs. Let there be no mistake about it: Com. Meenakshy, like so many others in this pandemic, died at the hands of those dark artisans of the bourgeoisie who mix medicine with profitability.
Comrades! Let the heavy blow of Com. Meenakshy’s passing rally our ranks and harden our determination. We are marching in a united battle line against capital, and no forces in the world will interfere with our ultimate victory.
